India needs 'Smart' police force: PM Modi
Guwahati, Nov 30 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the 49th All India DGPs and IGPs conference in Assam's Guwahati where he said India needs 'Smart Police' force.
"India needs Smart police force which have a concept. S stands for strict and sensitive, M for modern and mobility, A for alert and accountable, R for reliable and responsible and T for tech savvy and trained. We have to proceed with these five concepts," he said.
The PM said the good work of the policemen should highlighted.
"Any news about something wrong done by the police stays in the media for a long time while many reports of their achievements are ignored. We have to correct the wrong perspective that people have about police force," he said.
He said the policemen themselves don't take much effort in highlighting their good works and therefore advised the departments to create an online portal for public access.
The PM also said the the websites should be updated with a "positive and honest story" every week.
Modi said there should be an-e-book containing the contributions of the policemen.
"33,000 police personnel sacrificing themselves for the nation is not small. Their sacrifices shouldn't go in vain. We can have an e-book for every state on the martyrs of the police force."
He said the books should be published in both the martyr's state language as well as in national language.
Modi, however, did not address the terror or international security issues.
The meeting came amid the recent arrest of an ISIS terrorist from Mumbai and also the Burdwan blast in Kolkata that has resurfaced the prevalence of Jammat modules across the country.
