New Delhi/IBNS: Entire India, ranging from north to south, joined to clap or beat utensils as they responded to the appeal made by Indian PM Narendra Modi last week to pay tribute to medical practitioners and other essential service providers who are combating Coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The COVID 19 outbreak has so far claimed seven lives in the nation with Sunday reporting the highest number of deaths on a single day at three.

Indian PM Narendra Modi tweeted to thank people who responded to his appeal and said it is the beginning of victory in a long battle against the pandemic.

The event occurred on a day when the entire nation is observing 'Janata Curfew', the latest measure taken by the country to fight against the disease which has so far hit normal lives in 150 countries.

Clapping his hands, President Ram Nath Kovind also joined citizens across India to pay his tribute to the health workers as the clock struck 5 o' clock in the evening.

So far, 341 people have been infected by COVID 19 cases in India so far.

India has reported seven COVID 19 deaths so far.

The last death was reported from Surat city in Gujarat.

The Indian government on Sunday advised 75 districts affected by the novel coronavirus will be put under lockdown, except the operation of essential services.

A high-level meeting was held today morning with Chief Secretaries of all the States by the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, officials said.

"In view of the need to contain the spread of COVID 19, it was agreed that there is urgent need to extend the restrictions on the movement of non-essential passenger transport including inter-state transport buses till 31st March 2020," read the statement.

"Following detailed discussions, the State Governments were advised to issue appropriate orders to allow only essential services to operate in the 75 districts which have reported confirmed cases or casualties relating to COVID 19.  The State Governments may expand the list depending on their assessment of the situation.  It was noted that several State Governments have already issued orders in this regard," it said.
