India to gift Dhaka 20 lakh doses of Oxford-Astrazenca Covid-19 vaccines tomorrow: Bangladesh Foriegn Ministry

New Delhi: Bangladesh government has said India will gift 20 lakh doses of Oxford-Astrazenca Covid-19 vaccines (Covishield) on Jan 21, reflecting the friendly relationship shared between the two nations.

Bangladesh’s foreign ministry confirmed the development on Facebook.

"Bangladesh will receive 20 lakh doses of Oxford-Astrazenca Covid-19 vaccines (Covishield) from India as a gift on 21 January," Bangladesh Foreign Minister said in a statement.

"A special flight of India carrying the consignment will land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka the day after tomorrow," read the statement.

The ruling Awami League also tweeted the development and said: "#Bangladesh to receive 2 million doses of #Oxford #Astrazeneca #COVID19 #vaccines from the Indian Govt as gift. This is in addition to the procurement of 30 million #CoronaVaccines from @SerumInstIndia . The gift doses are expected to arrive on 20 Jan: DGHS, Ministry of #Health."

There was no immediate word from Indian officials on the development, reports Hindustan Times.
