New Delhi, Dec 1 (IBNS): India will be hosting the G20 summit in 2022, the year in which the country will be celebrating its 75th Independence Day, media reports said.

According to India Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had requested Italy to host the summit in 2021 and allow India to organise it in 2022.

Inviting all world leaders to the summit, Modi said he is grateful to the G20 members.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of ongoing G20 summit in Argentina's Buenos Aires on Saturday, Modi invited Cyril Ramaphosa to be the chief guest at India's 70th Republic Day celebrations.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had declined India's invitation citing "crowded agenda" during that time, said reports.
