Indian army-Assam police recover huge cache of ammunition, hand grenades in Assam's Chirang district

Guwahati: Indian army and Assam police on Wednesday recovered huge cache of ammunition, hand grenades in Assam's Chirang district, which were buried by suspected terrorists. 

Based on a specific source information, a joint operation has been launched by Chirang district police led by SDPO, Bijni along with 5th Garhwal Rifles of Indian army  inside Maoria Jungle (north of the Sluice Gate located on the Sukan Taklai river),  North of Janata Bazar BOP of 15th BN SSB under Koila Moila outpost of Amguri police station. 

Assam Police Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Rajiv Saikia said that rigorous search was carried out and based on the lead given by the source, digging was done at multiple places.

"During digging, at one place, one packet packed in black polyethene carry bag containing some suspected items and one plastic jar has been recovered. After unpacking of the same some ammunition, hand grenades have been recovered," the CPRO said.

Security personnel recovered 101 rounds of 7.62 AK series live ammunition, 8 rounds of 5.56 live ammunition, three rounds of 7.62 sniper live ammunition, two empty cartridges, two crude bombs, one Chinese hand grenade, one  36 no hand grenade, 10 numbers Electric Detonator with wire from the area.

Further investigation in this regard is on.
