Indian workers in Sri Lanka will be brought back soon: MEA
Amid reports that Indian workers were held captive in Sri Lanka, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said: "They're not being held captive, they're facing labour issues. I assure you we're in constant touch with the company and the men will be back in India within 24 to 48 hours."
He earlier tweeted that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has spoken to Indian Envoy in Colombo on issue of 77 Indian having labour problems.
"Their repatriation being arranged soon," he tweeted.
He said the Indian Mission in Colombo has taken up the matter with the company on Jan 2 and a resolution is imminent.
Media reports said Bhuwalka Steel - the company in question- is an Indian company and the government is contemplating strong action against them.
