Pokhran, Aug 16 (IBNS): Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said India's nuclear doctrine for the future will depend on the circumstances.

He visited Pokhran where India's nuclear tests were conducted.

" Visited Pokhran today and paid homage to the former Prime Minister of India and one of the stalwarts of Independent India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji on his first death anniversary," he said.

Aug 16th marked the first death anniversary of former Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Under Vajpayee's leadership, India had conducted nuclear tests in 1998.

" Pokhran is the area which witnessed Atal Ji’s firm resolve to make India a nuclear power and yet remain firmly committed to the doctrine of ‘No First Use’. India has strictly adhered to this doctrine. What happens in future depends on the circumstances," Singh said.

"India attaining the status of a responsible nuclear nation became a matter of national pride for every citizen of this country. The nation will remain indebted to the greatness of Atal Ji," he said.
