Phagwara, Feb 21 (UNI) The bus plying from Lahore to Delhi via Phagwara was diverted due to protests of Shiv Sena workers, police said here on Thursday.

The India-Pakistan bus en route to Delhi was diverted through Jalandhar-Zandiala-Nakodar-Phillaur-Ludhiana route in place of Jalandhar-Phagwara-Ludhiana route, while Lahore-bound bus also likely to ply on this diverted route.

"Amidst protests of Shiv Sena activists yesterday, the administration while taking preventive step diverted the routes of both Delhi and Lahore-bound buses on Thursday," Phagwara Superintendent of Police Mandeep Singh told newsmen here.

Notably, the Phagwara Police have booked five Shiv Sena workers under section 160/283/188/149 IPC on the charges of showing black flags to the Delhi-bound Lahore-Delhi bus near Poonam Hotel here on Wednesday.

The SP told that the booked activists included Shiv Sena state vice-president Manish Sood, Sumir Sharma, Saurav, Raman and Bhagwan Dati.

He said the police made hard efforts to prevent the attempt of the protesters to stop the bus by not allowing them to enter on the main road.

The activists held the protests near Poonam Hotel on the slip road when the Lahore-Delhi Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) bus was crossing the route.

Police investigating the incident and no arrest has been made so for.

This comes amid deteriorating relationship between India and Pakistan over the Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir which left 40 jawans martyred.

India blamed Pakistan for the attack, which has been claimed by Pakistan-based militant organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
