Instead of Rabindrasangeet, Bengal today hears sounds of bombs: Amit Shah in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed the Trinamool Congress government on Sunday and declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form a government in Bengal in 2026.

Speaking in Kolkata during the inauguration of the Passenger Terminal Building and a Maitri Dwar in Petrapole, Shah said: "Mamata didi was rejoicing after our seats were reduced (in the Lok Sabha polls). Don't forget, we are a party with two seats but aimed to remove Article  370."

"There is state-sponsored infiltration in Bengal and the only way to stop this is to elect the BJP in 2026... Instead of Rabindrasangeet, Bengal today is hearing the sound of bombs," he said.

"In 2026, BJP will form a government with a two-thirds majority," he added.

His remark came at a time when there is a huge anti-government mood looming in Kolkata following the rape-murder of a 31-year-old doctor at the RG Kar Medical College.

Since the incident on August 9, Kolkata and its suburbs have been witnessing massive protests by junior doctors and civil society demanding justice for the heinous crime and the eradication of threat culture in state-run medical institutions.

While the protest was called off recently following the doctors' meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the state is still simmering.

Though Amit Shah didn't speak much on the issue, the state BJP has been trying to take advantage of the current mood which is largely anti-establishment.

There is speculation that the BJP is hoping that the momentum of the protests will be enough to topple the Trinamool government in time.

Amit Shah Sunday inaugurated a new Passenger Terminal Building and a Maitri Dwar in Bengal's Petrapole, that is built at a cost of Rs. 487 crore by the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI).
