Iran says welcomes mediatory efforts to calm tensions with Saudi Arabia

Tehran, Sep 30 (Xinhua) Iran welcomes any mediatory attempt to calm tensions with Saudi Arabia, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.

"There has always been a chance to solve these problems through dialogue," Abbas Mousavi told reporters during his weekly press conference on Monday.

Mousavi expressed his hope that the Saudi side is also "ready" for alleviating tensions.

As for the mediatory attempts by the Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, he said that Iran welcomes Abdul Mahdi's visit to Tehran, "but nothing has finalized yet."

Abdul Mahdi said on Thursday after his visit to Saudi Arabia that he was optimistic about preventing a regional war.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud said he would prefer a political and peaceful solution to a military one over conflicts with Iran.

Riyadh has blamed Tehran for attacks on Saudi oil fields, the allegations which have been denied by the latter.
