Islamic State terrorist, CRPF HC killed in Srinagar encounter

Srinagar/UNI: A militant of J&K Islamic State (IS), responsible for Bijbehara attack, was neutralised by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on Thursday night in the outskirts of summer capital, Srinagar, a police spokesperson said on Friday.

A CRPF Head Constable (HC) identified as Kuldeep Urwan was also killed in the encounter.

He further said the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.

Giving details about the operation, he stated on a tip off about the presence of militants at Malbagh in the city outskirts, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO on Thursday night.

However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. 'The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter', he further stated.

A militant of IS identified as Zahid Daas was killed so far, he said. A HC of CRPF was critically wounded in the encounter. However, he later succumbed in the hospital.

He affirmed that the militant was involved in the June 26 attack at Bijbehara in Anantnag in which a CRPF and a minor boy were killed.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said that it was a big success for police and CRPF.

Meanwhile, additional security forces and police have been deployed in the nearby areas besides in the downtown city to prevent any law and order problem.
