IT consultant death: Indian govt assures to provide assistance to family
"R Consul General providing all assistance to Mr Arun Kumar who reached Sydney yesterday. Minister @SushmaSwaraj monitoring followup," MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted.
"India's Consul General pursuing issue of Mrs Prabha Arun Kumar's sad death with New South Wales Premier @mikebairdMP," he said.
The police have started investigating the matter.
The NSW Police on Monday said they are investigating the death of a woman in Westmead at the weekend have released CCTV footage as part of their renewed appeal for information from the public.
"Police believe she was attacked while on the walkway. She sustained a number of injuries, which it’s believed were inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon," read a statement issued by the police on Monday.
"Strike Force Marcoala (pronounced mah-cola) has been formed to investigate the death. It compromises police from Parramatta Local Area Command and State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad," it said.
“We are hoping this will jog the memory of anyone who was in the vicinity of Argyle Street, Park Parade or Amos Street that evening, and encourage them to come forward and speak with police,” Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Michael Willing, said in the statement.
Indian IT consultant Prabha Arun Kumar was 300 metres away from her home in Australia's Westmead area and was talking to her husband Arun Kumar over phone when she was attacked at around 9:30 pm, reports said.
“I think I’ve been stabbed,” she told her husband as quoted by dailytelegraph.com.au.
“It is a nightmare. I don’t know why this happens to good people,” Prabha's friend and flatmate, who asked only to be identified as Sarada, told dailytelegraph.com.au.
