Kochi/UNI: The 55 meter high Jain Coral Cove luxury apartment  built in  violation  of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms in Maradu municipality, was razed down within seconds at 11.03 am on Sunday through controlled Implosion.

The apartment which was filled with 400 kg of explosives, was blasted in a controlled manner at the end of the third warning siren.

The interior walls had been removed in a pre-demolition work, leaving it a concrete shell. The luxury apartment became mounds of debris which was witnessed by large number of people.

With this,  three of the four apartment complexes ordered to be demolished by the Supreme Court in September 2018 have been razed down.

The Fire Force personnel sprayed water to control the air pollution from the demolition.

About 400 kg explosives were used for the implosion of Jain Coral Cove, which is largest among the four apartments, consisting of 128 flats.

Meanwhile, Golden Kayaloram,  the last of the four illegal apartments, located at Nettoor in Maradu was demolished through controlled implosion at 1430 hours this afternoon.

With this, the government completed the demolition of all the four illegal  apartments by implementing the Apex Court order.

There was a slight delay in sounding the first siren as the last round inspection was not completed.

The district authorities confirmed that the first siren was delayed which was supposed to blow at 1.30 pm, but it went on at 1.56 pm. The second siren was given at 2.19 pm and third at 2.30 pm.

Jet demolition company, partner firm of Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering carried out the implosion of the Apartment. About 14.8 kg explosives were used to demolish the apartment.

It is the oldest one among the four illegal apartments.
