Srinagar, Oct 7 (IBNS): Suspected militants shot dead a policeman while another was injured after they attacked a police post in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Friday night.

According to reports, suspected militants attacked a picket which was guarding a minority family in Jamnagri village of Shopian district.

“Militants fired at the cops who tried to repulse their rifle-snatching bid at minority police post in the area. However, alertness of the police jawans foiled the mission,” said senior police officer.

Slain cop was identified as Constable Nazir Ahmad, resident of Kulgam.

The other cop is reportedly critical and has been shifted to Srinagar.

He has been identified as Constable Zahoor Ahmad.

Soon after the incident, more reinforcement rushed to the spot and the whole area has been cordoned off to search hiding militants in the area.
