Jammu and Kashmir: Drive against COVID-19 violations conducted in Sopore

Srinagar: To discourage hoardings and over pricing and to keep COVID-19 cases under check, comprehensive market checking and drive against COVID-19 violators was conducted by Police in Sopore along with civil officers and various municipal committees of Sopore.

The drive was held at Bus Stand Sopore, main market Dangiwacha Rafiabad, Puthkha and Chankhan areas to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by the government to curb the COVID-19 pandemic and to discourage hoardings and over pricing.

During the drive, people including drivers, pedestrians, shopkeepers, passengers and others were fined for not wearing facemasks and not following SoPs of COVID-19 containment measures and an amount of Rs 10,800 was collected as fine from 58 violators.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, SSP Sopore Sudhanshu Verma said, “The drive is aimed to ensure wearing of facemasks and following other mandated SOPs besides focusing on smooth supply of essential commodities during the holy month of Ramadhan.”

He appealed people to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines and SOPs and wear facemasks whenever they venture out of their homes
