Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter taking place between security forces, terrorists in Shopian

Srinagar: An encounter has raged between militants and security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.

The latest gunfight broke at Chowgam area of Shopian when joint forces were carrying a cordon and a search operation following an input regarding the presence of militants in the area.

"An encounter started during the CASO," a police officer said.

Police said the security forces are on the job.

Kashmir Police Zone tweeted: "#Encounter has started at Chowgam area of #Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice."
