Jammu and Kashmir: Militant involved in injuring civilian killed in encounter by SF in Shopian

Srinagar/UNI; A militant was killed in an encounter by security forces in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Thursday, police said.

Troops of Rashitriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) following a tip off that a militant Anayat Ashraf was hiding in village Kashwa in Shopian after injuring a civilian Jaewer Hameed Bhat last night, a police spokesman said Thursday morning.

He said encounter broke out when security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village.

All civilians in the adjoining houses to target area were evacuated.

He was told to surrender through out the night, but he refused.

Later on, during encounter the newly active militant was killed.

One pistol and ammunition were recovered from his possession.

Earlier, on Wednesday night Dar who was earlier an Over Ground Worker (OGW) and also involved in drugs, fired upon a civilian Jeewer Hameed Bhat, injuring him seriously.

Anayat was also threatening other people in and around his village using his weapons.

After the attack on Bhat several people were interrogated and fter receiving input from sources, a CASO was launched at village Keshwa.
