Jammu and Kashmir: Rice for public distribution seized in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) Police on Tuesday seized government rice for public distribution from a vehicle in civil lines area of the summer capital, a police spokesman said.

A police party led by Station House Officer (SHO) of police station Maisuma intercepted a three-wheeler near Maisuma on the bank of the river Jehlum. During the search of the vehicle, 15 quintals of rice which was for public distribution was seized.


He said the rice was later to be repackaged into the bags of popular brands and sold in the market.


The Spokesman said the driver Sami Ullah Tharno and shopkeeper Mudasir Ahmad Rah were arrested and the vehicle seized.


He said a case has been registered and further investigation taken up.
