Jammu: Temples witness rush of devotees on Maha Navami

Jammu, Oct 7 (UNI) The ‘City of Temples’ Jammu witnessed rush of devotees on the occasion of Maha Navami which was celebrated with religious fervour here on Monday.

Devotees from different walks of life thronged various temples especially Kali Temple locally known as ‘Bawe Wali Mata’ to offer prayers for peace and prosperity.


The occasion is followed by eight day long navratras while Dussehra will be celebrated tomorrow.


Men, women and children offered flowers, fruits to the idols of Goddesses while women folk broke their fast of eight day long Navami by visiting temples, offering traditional food to ‘kanjaks’ and immersing ‘saakh’ into River Tawi and Ranbir Canal.


However, tight security arrangements were made in and around temples for incident free celebrations.


Reports from Katra said that pilgrims from across the country visited the holy town to perform pilgrimage to the cave shrine.


Around 35,000 to 42,000 pilgrims during Navratras visited the Katra for yatra and during nine day long holy days, around 3.65 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance.


The Katra Navratra festival witnessed festivity like atmosphere with number of colourful programmes organised by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board with Jammu Tourism.
