J&K Deputy CM Nirmal Singh meets Amit Shah
New Delhi, Mar 10 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh met party President Amit Shah on Tuesday and apprised him of the situation in the northern state following the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam.
BJP earlier warned PDP, which is its ally in the Jammu and Kashmir government, that such actions in future will not be tolerated by the former.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday also said the 'country and its security' was far more important issue for the Centre than the government is Jammu and Kashmir.
"The country is surely our topmost priority and not the government," Singh told reporters here.
Singh said he has sought for a clarification from the J&K government over the release of the separatist leader.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the Central government was not consulted by the Jammu and Kashmir government over the issue of release of separatist leader Masarat Alam from prison last week.
In his statement in the Lok Sabha, Modi said: "I also lending my voice to the outrage that has been displayed in the country and in the House today...This aakrosh (anger) is not about any party or this bench or that bench. It is about the nation."
He said: "I am assuring the nation that there is no compromise on the unity of the country."
"We are not going to tolerate any step which undermines the unity of the country," he said.
Speaking further on the issue, he said: "We asked for a clarification from the state government on the issue of Alam's release and when it comes we will inform you on the matter."
