J&K: Militant killed by security forces in Badgam encounter

Srinagar, Jun 30 (UNI): A militant was killed by security forces on Sunday in an encounter in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, official sources said.

Meanwhile, internet service was suspended in Badgam as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours,

The officer said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants at village Bugam, Badgam, launched a joint search operation early on Sunday morning.

All the exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches launched.


However, when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.

Troops also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

A militant was so far killed, official sources said, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
