J&K Police detain three in Chennai tourist's death from stone pelting, Defence Minister expresses grief
Srinagar, May 8 (IBNS): Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Tuesday, expressed her grief at the death of a tourist from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in a stone-throwing incident in Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police, on Tuesday, have detained three people in relation to the death of R Thirumani (22), who was on a trip to the state with his family, reports said.
The incident took place near Narbal Village of Budgam on Monday night at around 8:30 pm.
Soon after the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police registered a murder case at Police Station Magam.
On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti drove straight to Srinagar Hospital and met the victim's father and condoled the death.
In a series of tweets, former chief minister and National Conference president Omar Abdullah wrote "We’ve killed a tourist by throwing stones at the vehicle he was travelling in. Let’s try and wrap our heads around the fact that we stoned a tourist, a guest, to death while we glorify these stone pelters & their methods."
