J&K: Police holds Hizbul Mujahideen militant responsible for father-son murder
Srinagar, Jan 5 (IBNS): Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday claimed to have solved what it termed as 'mysterious killing' of a father-son duo in Sopore area of north Kashmir by arresting a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
A former militant Bashir Ahmed Bhat was killed while his three-year-old son Burhan was critically injured after unidentified gunmen fired at them in Sagipora area on September 19, last year.
Burhan later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, triggering massive outrage in the valley.
“Sopore police has cracked the mysterious killings of father -son duo by apprehending an HM militant Towheed Bashir Mir son of Bashir Mir resident of Younsoo,” a police spokesman said on Tuesday.
“Police has already arrested Tahir Bashir Sheikh @ Tahir Malla son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, the accomplice of Towheed soon after the incident occurred in the month of September 2015. Keeping a close track Sopore police received information that Towheed was moving from Srinagar to Handwara,” the spokesman said.
“A Naka along with security forces was laid and the party apprehended Towheed when he tried to escape towards the orchards as he saw the Naka of police.”
Giving details, he said, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted, which completed the investigation and challenged the case in court of law against Towheed Bashir and Tahir Malla under section 302 RPC and 512 CrPC.
“The main accused was affiliated with HM and with his arrest the mysterious case has been solved,” said the spokesman.
