JK Women Helpline encourages people to break silence on sexual harrassment

Srinagar/IBNS: The Jammu and Kashmir Women Helpline (WHL-181) organised an awareness programme in local buses at Kangan, Prang, Wusson, Wangat areas of the Ganderbal District .

The WHL-181 is a project of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development and is being run by State Resource Centre for Women of Department of Social Welfare in J&K.

Speaking on the occasion, project coordinator WHL-181 Bilal Bhat highlighted the overall services provided by the helpline.

The helpline provides 24-hour immediate response to women in distress and represent them before the appropriate service providers such as police, MSK, and FCC.

One Stop Centre (SAKHI-OSC) also provides services like hospital assistance, emergency response, and psychological support /counseling, and temerity shelter, he said.

Bhat further informed that the participants can avail aid in case of domestic violence, dowry abuse, mental torture, sexual assault, eve teasing, cyber-crime, child sexual abuse, rape, economical violence or any other distress situation.

Bilal Bhat apprised Women folk that suicide is not a solution, and urged women to break their silence and raise their voices, if someone faces domestic violence or sexual harassment.

In any distressful situation, one can dial the helpline number- 181 to get access to justice, welfare and the district  administration.
