Judge Vijay Vishnoi recuses from hearing Salman Khan Arms Act case

New Delhi, May 19 (IBNS): The judge hearing the Arms Act case against Bollywood actor Salman Khan has recused himself, reports said on Tuesday.

Judge Vijay Vishnoi has refused to hear the case. He has conveyed his decision to the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.

The Chief justice will now have to appoint a new judge in the case.

Earlier this month, the Jodhpur court has rejected Khan's plea for witness re-examination in connection with the 1998 blackbuck poaching case.

The case has been booked against Khan under the Arms Act as the licenses of his weapons were found to have been expired.

On April 29, Khan pleaded 'not guilty' before the court.

He had filed for re-examination of five witnesses in the case.

Salman Khan and a few other Bollywood actors  were accused of poaching blackbucks, and endangered species, on the midnight of Oct 1-2, 1998 during the shooting of a movie "Hum Saath Saath Hain".

Two blackbucks, were killed on the outskirts of Kankani village near Jodhpur.

Khan is accused of carrying and using illegal arms.

Earlier this month, a session court convicted and sentenced him to jail for five years in connection with the 2002 incident in which his SUV mounted over pavement and ploughed through several persons, killing one and injuring four others.

The court found him guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and held him responsible for drunken driving without having a valid license.

Later, the Bombay High Court suspended his five-year jail sentence and asked him  to apply for bail with a bond of Rs. 30,000.
