Jumbo container based COVID hospitals to come up near oxygen plants: MHA

New Delhi/UNI: In order to tackle logistical issues in transporting liquid medical oxygen to various hospitals in the country,  the Centre on Friday decided to set up jumbo container based Covid hospitals near oxygen producing plants.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday said it has been taking steps to address logistical issues in oxygen transportation via cryogenic containers, as 50 percent of Nitrogen and Argon containers are being converted for liquid oxygen transport.

The ministry also said that most of the industries have been producing gaseous oxygen in order to increase the number of oxygen-supported beds amid a surge in COVID-19 positive cases.

To further augment oxygen supply in the country, Additional Secretary in the MHA said at a press conference here that besides import of cryogenic tankers, efforts are being made to raise production of these tankers in India.

“After discussions with States/UTs and other stakeholders, the Union Government has worked out a dynamic allocation plan for judicious use of resources, as these include daily review of the supply chain on real time basis and immediate intervention in case of any interruption in the process,” he said.

The MHA official said that steps are also being taken for effective oxygen movement, as the production line is predominantly available in eastern part, but demand is higher in the central and the western parts of the country.

“After discussion with States/UTs source and destination mapping has been done to minimise delay,” he added.
