Justice JS Khehar to become the next Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, Dec 6 (IBNS): Supreme Court judge Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar has been announced as the next Chief Justice of India.

Present Chief Justice of India TS Thakur, whose term ends on Jan 3, on Tuesday recommended Khehar's name for the post.

In November, Thakur was requested by the Law Ministry to recommend the name of a successor.

Justice Khehar will be the 44th Chief Justice of India.

The 64-year-old Justice will take up office on January 4.

Justice Khehar was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge in Sept 2011.
