Karnataka : Docs in private hospitals go on strike protesting proposed law
Bengaluru, Nov 3 (IBNS) : Patients experienced a tough time as about 40,000 private hospitals and clinics remained closed across Karnataka on Friday as private doctors went on a strike protesting against the state Government's proposed amendments to a medical bill which gives the state more power to have control over their functioning.
According to reports, doctors and medical staff have suspended services at out-patient department (OPD) for a day, leaving emergency and ambulance services outside the purview of their agitation.
The doctors are protesting provisions like fixation of doctors fee, constituting district-level grievance committee to take action against erring hospitals in the bill.
The bill is likely to be tabled in the winter session of the legislative assembly in November in Belagavi.
The Indian Medical Association(IMA) has asked all its members not to provide services on Friday.
Terming the bill "draconian", medical associations in the state have been demanding the removal of these amendments.
