Karnataka's former DGP Om Prakash, who was serving in the position from 2015 to 2017, was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru on Sunday, media reports said.

According to reports, his wife Pallavi is the prime suspect in the case.

She has been questioned.

The exact reason behind his death is still not known.

Om Prakash was allegedly stabbed to death, and the murder weapon has been recovered from the scene, reported News 18.

Speaking to the media, Bengaluru Additional Commissioner of Police (East), Vikas Kumar, was quoted as saying by UNI: "This afternoon, around 4:00–4:30 PM, we received information regarding the incident. The jurisdictional police reached the spot immediately. It was then we learnt about the unfortunate death of former DGP Om Prakash."

The officer said that Om Prakash' son has been contacted and is in the process of filing a formal complaint.

"Once the complaint is received, an FIR (first information report) will be registered and a detailed investigation will be taken up," he said.

"At this stage, it is too early to determine the motive or complete circumstances surrounding the death. From preliminary evidence at the scene, it appears that a sharp weapon may have been used, as there was significant blood loss," ACP Kumar was quoted as saying by the news agency.

He said every aspect of the case would be probed.

"Once FIR formalities are complete, a requisition for post-mortem will be sent. Further legal procedures will follow after the post-mortem is conducted," he said.

Om Prakash is a 1981-batch IPS officer.
