Kashmir encounter ends with death of militants

Srinagar, Apr 14 (IBNS) A 24-hour-long gunbattle between militants and the security forces at Ahmad Nagar near here in Jammu and Kashmir ended Monday evening with the death of the two ultras. Two SOG (Special Operations Group) men were injured.

Giving the details of the encounter, CRPF spokesperson Kishore Prasad told IBNS: "Last evening on a specific information an operation was launched in Ahmadnagar-Soura area by police, CRPF and SSB. Police evacuated the people, while zeroing in on a house."

He said that  in the initial assault one policeman was injured. Three civilians, including the land lord and land lady, were evacuated and rescued this morning.

"In this encounter two militants got killed. The slain militants have been identified as Abu Huzaifa and Chota Hafiz of LeT outfit. Two SOG men also got injured in the gun-battle," he added.

Two policemen and as many militants were killed in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Sunday after the house of a National Conference (NC) leader was attacked. Pulwama district  goes to polls on April 24.
