Kejriwal's first protest march as Delhi CM

New Delhi, Apr 3 (IBNS) AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal will hit the street on April 22 for a protest march for the first time after taking over as Delhi's Chief Minister.

Kejriwal will lead a group of his party's legislators, supporters, activists and farmers in a march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament demanding that the BJP-led government at the centre abandon its plan for reforms in the land acquisition law.

Kejriwal's demonstration will be preceded by three days by the Congress which will also stage a public protest against the land reforms.

The Narendra Modi government at the centre issued an executive order in December, 2014 making major changes to a law on land acquisition passed when the Congress was in power.

The change is said to have made to simplify the existing  land acquisition act for industry and infrastructure projects.

The ordinance lapses on Sunday, and the government plans to issue another ordinance  which includes revisions made when the proposal was passed by the Lok Sabha last month.

A pertinent bill formulated by the government for a suitable legislation could not be brought to the Rajya Sabha where the ruling BJP is in a minority.

However, BJP now holding its National Executive meeting in Bengaluru is doggedly pursuing with its objective and looking for strategies to garner support in favour of the bill.
