Kerala : Kottyam medical student set on fire in classroom by jilted lover

Kottayam, Kerala, Feb 2 (IBNS) : A medical student was set on fire in full view of her classmates in Kerala's Kottayam on Wednesday as her jilted lover also set himself ablaze after committing the crime, an NDTV report said.

Both of them died in hospital after struggling for live.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at a medical college when 20-year-old Laxmi was sitting in a classroom with a few other students and a young man barged in and poured petrol on her and himself.

As the attacker, Adarsh,  took out a lighter, Laxmi ran out of the classroom screaming. But Adarsh caught up with her and  to set her on fire. Then he set himself ablaze.

Laxm and Adarsh  died of severe burns in hospital in the night.

Two classmates who tried to save Laxmi  were also burnt.

Laxmi, who was studying physiotherapy at the School of Medical Education in the town had suffered nearly 65 per cent burns.

According to police, Laxmi and Adarsh had been in a relationship, which broke up.

Adarsh was an ex-student of the college.
