Kerala: Opposition boycotts Governor's policy address
Thiruvananthapuram/UNI: The Budget Session of the Kerala Legislative Assembly got off to a tumultuous start with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Opposition boycotting Kerala Governor Arif Muhammad Khan's policy address on Friday.
When the Governor entered the House, the Opposition members shouted "Governor Goback" slogans and held up placards and banners against the Governor displaying that there is a "give-and-take" arrangement between the Raj Bhavan and the government.
As the Governor began his customary policy address, Opposition leader VD Satheesan stood up and said the government was 'neck-deep' in corruption prompting the Governor to say, "You will have the time to discuss everything in the House. You are a responsible Opposition leader and it is my constitutional duty to address the body of the representatives of the people."
When the Opposition leaders shouted slogans and disrupted his speech, the Governor objected to the UDF commotion urging them to allow him to discharge his duty.
Following which, the Opposition boycotted the Governor's policy address and staged a sit-in protest on steps leading to the Assembly chamber raising banners and slogans against the government and the Governor.
