Thiruvanthapuram, Mar 7(IBNS) Veteran Congress leader and Kerala Assembly Speaker G Karthikeyan died at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday morning.

He was 66 and is survived by wife and two sons.

Karthikeyan was suffering from liver cancer.

The speaker, who was lodged in the ICU, breathed his last around 10.30 am.

The condition of Karthikeyan, who had been having medical problems for some time, deteriorated recently

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who was in Kochi, cancelled his official programmes and returned to the state capital when Karthikeyan's condition turned critical.
