Kerala: Three killed in Kottambathur forest fire

Thrissur/UNI:  With one more succumbing to burn injuries, the death toll rose to three in the fire which broke out at the forest at Kottambathur, near Desamangalam, about 40 km from here, rescue officials said on Monday.

The fire broke out on Sunday night in which two forest guards were killed yesterday when they tried to douse the fire. Reports said three guards were engaged in the fire fighting when they got trapped and could not escape as smoke was emanating.

While all the three got burn injuries, two of them killed on the sport and the third one was shifted to hospital where he died later.

Forest minister AK Raju announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for each of the victim.

The fire which was first reported yesterday evening brought under control early today, officials added.
