Kasaragod  Feb 18 (UNI): The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of the two Youth Congress workers at Periya in Kanhangad near here on Sunday night took two persons into custody on Monday.

According to police sources, the investigation is also extended to the neighbouring State of Karnataka in search of culprits, who are likely to have crossed over after the brutal murder.

The SIT has also seized two motorcycles allegedly connected to the case.

Police said the investigation, including the involvement of CPI(M) activists in the double murder, is progressing in the right direction.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday condemned the brutal murder of the two Youth Congress activists in Kasargod district.

"The brutal murder of two members of our Youth Congress family in Kasargod, Kerala, is shocking," said Rahul in a tweet.

"The Congress Party stands in solidarity with the families of these two young men and I send them my deepest condolences. We will not rest till the murderers are brought to justice," he said.

MP Shashi Tharoor MP, who represents the area, said: "Shocked by brutal murder of two @IYCKerala activists, SarathLal & Kripesh, in Kasargod."

"Politics of violence practised, esp. in N.Kerala, by the @PIMKerala, has crossed all limits. It is well past time for @vijayanpinarayi to rein them in. I share the pain of the boys' families," Tharoor said.
