Kolkata: The owner of a popular biryani chain was arrested along with 13 more people for gambling after Kolkata Police raided two clubs in the city.

Akhtar Parvez, the owner of Arsalan chain of restaurants, was caught playing poker by the Anti Rowdy Squad of Kolkata Police's Detective Department on Saturday.

The police conducted raids on Friends Club in Camac Street and Leo Club at AJC Bose road and seized huge amount of cash.

Joint CP(Crime) Murlidhar Sharma said: "In the late hours of Saturday, raids across different locations in the city were conducted by the Anti Rowdy Squad of Detective Department. In the raids, 14 people were apprehended and a large number of poker dice and playing cards were confiscated."

Police lodged FIRs against the arrested individuals under section 120 (B) and 420(Cheating) among other sections and West Bengal Gambling and Prize Competition Act.

Last month, Parvez's younger son was booked in a hit and run case in which two Bangladeshi nationals were killed. Later, it was found that his elder son Raghib was driving the car.

Raghib was apprehended along with his uncle who was arrested on the charge of providing shelter to the accused.
