Kolkata, Feb 2 (IBNS): A college student, who was beaten up after he protested against harassment of some women, has died at a hospital in Kolkata on Monday, reports said.

Arup Bhandari, who is a resident of Howrah district in West Bengal, was admitted to a private hospital on Jan 29.

He was in a ventilator for the past five days.

An FIR has been lodged in connection with the matter at the Golabari Police Station.

The police have not arrested anyone so far.

“We have started a murder case against the accused,” Nishat Pervez, the DC (headquarters) with Howrah City Police was quoted  as saying by Hindustan Times.

Bhandari was beaten up allegedly by five youths on Wednesday  as he protested against them for making obscene gestures and teasing girls.

The attackers allegedly hit Bhandari with bamboos and rods.
