Kolkata's Red Road to remain closed from tonight for Mamata Banerjee's oath-taking ceremony
"We have to make all arrangements for new government's oath-taking ceremony at Red Road. So, to make all arrangements and ensure security at the area, we have decided to keep Red Road closed from tonight (12am). After the oath ceremony on May 27, the road will be opened again," one senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.
Not following the usual path, Mamata Banerjee has decided to take oath from Red Road, instead of Governor's place, in front of general people.
"We are making a huge seating arrangement there, where at least 20 thousand people can sit together," one government officials told IBNS.
Several ministers, leaders and VVIPs, including Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal and Arun Jetly, have been invited for the programme.
Meanwhile, protesting against TMC's alleged attack on BJP leader Roopa Ganguly in Diamond Harbour, BJP's state president Dilip Ghosh on Monday said to boycott the oath ceremony on May 27. He has also threatened to block Red Road on that day.
Kolkata Police are taking several strategies to avoid any untoward incident on May 27, officials confirmed.
