Kumaraswamy threatens to quit after Cong MLA refers to Siddaramaiah as K'taka CM

Bengaluru, Jan 28 (IBNS): Days after praising Rahul Gandhi as a potent Prime Ministerial candidate, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has threatened to quit after he was disregarded as the government post-holder by a Congress MLA.

Janata Dal (Secular) leader Kumaraswamy, who runs a coalition government with the Congress in the southern state, said as quoted by NDTV, "If they want to continue with the same thing, I am ready to step down. They are crossing the line."

"Congress leaders have to watch out for all these issues. Congress leaders must think about all these things and control them... They are crossing the alliance's line. This is not going to affect me but Congress leaders only," the Chief Minister further added while warning the Congress as quoted by NDTV.

What did Congress leader say?

Congress leader C Puttarangashetty has recently said Siddaramaiah is their Chief Minister.

Siddaramaiah, a Congress man, was the Chief Minister of the state between 2013 and 2018.

Congress lawmaker ST Somashekar criticised Kumaraswamy and said there would have been more development in Karnataka had Siddaramaiah got another term.

Congress' damage control:

Immediately after an apparent rift between the two parties became visible, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge asked his party MLAs to avoid making such statements.

"They (Karnataka Congress MLAs) shouldn't react openly to the media. We've all come together to fight BJP-RSS. It's not advisable for any member to speak against wishes of the party high command. Such incidents will create confusion in a coalition." Kharge has been quoted by Zee News.

Congress leader defends:

Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, G Parameshwara, defended his party leader who considered Siddaramaiah as the Chief Minister.

Parameshwara said as quoted by Zee News, "Siddaramaiah has been best CM. He is our CLP leader. What is wrong in expressing opinions."
