New Delhi/Kuwait City/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday concluded his visit to Kuwait where he, along with the premier of the host country discussed the bilateral relations.

In a special gesture, Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah reached the airport to personally see-off Modi.

The Kuwait PM showed warmth towards Modi, strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.

During their meeting, the PMs of the two countries acknowledged that bilateral relations between the two countries were progressing well.

"The Prime Minister conveyed that India attaches utmost importance to its bilateral relations with Kuwait. The leaders acknowledged that bilateral relations were progressing well and welcomed their elevation to a Strategic Partnership," read the statement issued by the Indian government on Sunday.

They emphasized close coordination between both sides in the UN and other multilateral fora.

Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that India-GCC relations will be further strengthened under the Presidency of Kuwait.

In an X post, Modi said, "Thank you Kuwait! This visit was historic and will greatly enhance our bilateral relations. I thank the Government and people of Kuwait for their warmth. I also thank the PM of Kuwait for the special gesture of coming to the airport for the see-off."

This was the first visit to Kuwait by any Prime Minister in over four decades.

Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was the last Indian premier to visit Kuwait in 1981.
