Lalit Modi-Sushma Swaraj issue again forces adjournments in both Houses of Parliament

| | Aug 10, 2015, at 06:32 pm
New Delhi, Aug 10 (IBNS) Both the houses of Parliament were adjourned twice on Monday as the opposition, in keeping with their strategy to stall proceedings on the Lalit Modi issue continued uncontrollable uproar demanding resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The situation, which is a continuation of what has been  happening for nearly three weeks  holds almost no hope for a breakthrough for the rest of the day that is set to meet a similar fate the current monsoon session has been experiencing since its beginning from July 21.

The war of words between the government and the Opposition holds back crucial bills, including the Goods and Services Tax bill to be presented in Parliament.

After the opposition demand for resignation of the External Affairs Minister was rejected, noisy scenes witnessed adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajay Sabha till 12 noon. After resumption theLok Sabha was again adjourned till 12 30 pm and the Rajya Sabha till 2 pm.

Amid the uproar Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said: "We can't have a house where the government is not allowed to speak."

Congress leader Mallikarjun Mansur alleged that  Sushma Swara, accused by the opposition of helping tainted cricket tycoon Lalit Modi in getting trave document in the UK, is supporting a "fugitive."
