Land reforms bill: Sonia rejects talks offer, says party's stand irreversible
In a strongly worded letter to union minister Nitin Gadkari, Gandhi has also turned down the government offer for dialogues over the issue, saying 'it is a mockery of the consensus building exercise by a myopic government" and fighting for the cause of farmers is "non negotiable" for her party.
"I urge you to rise above the realm of narrow partisan politics and bring back the 2013 law in totality," She said.
Responding to the BJP campaign that accuses Congress and other opposition parties of being "anti national and anti farmer" in blocking the passage of the bill, Gandhi said it is an "unabashed display of half-truths and misrepresentations" which is "typical" of the government.
Accusing the government of being anti-poor, Gandhi alleged that the centre is "compromising" rights of the weaker sections of society to benefit a few industrialists.
Sonia's letter days after Gadkari challenged the Congress chief for an open debate on the proposed land bill.
Earlier this month, Gandhi led opposition leaders in a march from parliament to the Rashtrapati Bhawan to air their voice against the land reforms.
