Left Front's JNU protest march rescheduled owing to PM visit to Kolkata
Kolkata, Feb 19 (IBNS): The Left Front (LF) on Friday changed the time and route of its proposed protest rally in Kolkata scheduled on Sunday against the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) episode and the role of the central government.
The rally was scheduled to be held at 3 pm. on Feb 21 from Mahajati Sadan to Vasha Uddyan in Kolkata but due to the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi it was rescheduled at 12 noon same day.
After meeting 13 Left parties, LF chairman Biman Bose earlier in afternoon announced to organize the rally and requested all other Left parties of the state and all democracy lovers to join the march here.
The rally will now begin from Surendranath Park and conclude at Mahajati Sadan in the city.
PM Narendra Modi will be coming to Kolkata on that day to inaugurate the three-year long centenary celebration of the Gaudiya Math and Mission. Besides Netaji Indoor Stadium, where the main function will be held, Modi will also visit the Gaudiya Math in north Kolkata's Baghbazar area to perform aarti.
Currently, the nation is witnessing protests and counter protests over the situation arising out of anti-India slogans in the JNU campus recently, and the police cracking down on students who marked the death anniversary of Parliament Attack convict Afzal Guru on its campus in the national capital.
