"This Diwali, let us celebrate the accomplishments of our Nari Shakti. This can be our Lakshmi Pujan," Modi said.

Wishing people on Vijaya Dasami, Modi said: "On this Vijaya Dashami, at a time when we mark Gandhi150, I have a request for my fellow Indians. Let us take up one mission this year and work to fulfil it."

"This mission can be- not wasting food, conserving energy, saving water," he said.

India is celebrating Vijaya Dashami or Dussera on Tuesday.
