LS polls: Voting begins in 4 NE states

Itanagar, Apr 9 (IBNS) Voting in four North-Eastern (NE) states - Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur - began on Wednesday morning.

In the second phase of the nine-phase 2014 Lok Sabha elections, polling is being held in six constituencies of the four NE states.

In Arunachal, 7,53,170 voters, including 3,77,272 women, will cast their votes in 2,158 polling stations to decide the fate of 155 candidates contesting over two seats in the state.

In Meghalaya, 15,53,028 voters, including 7,83,270 women, will cast their ballots for two Lok Sabha seats.

In Nagaland, 11,82,948 voters, including 5,82,458 women, will vote to elect their representative for the lone parliamentary seat in the state.

In Manipur,  9,11,699 voters, including 4,63,068 are women, will cast their votes across 511 polling booths to elect its representative for one of the two parliamentary constituencies in the state.

Polling for the second seat - Inner Manipur constituency (valley districts) - will be held on Apr 17.

In the first phase, voting was held in six constituencies of Assam and Tripura on Monday.

Counting will be held on May 16
