Maharashtra: Gas leak at Badlapur in Thane dist

Thane/UNI: Residents of around three kms radius were affected at Badlapur in Thane district on Thursday night following a gas leakage from an industrial unit, the district officials said on Friday.

The gas leaked around 2220 hrs from the industrial unit Noble Intermediaries Ltd, at Shirgaon MIDC, Aptewadi of Badlapur (EAST).

It was due to the overheating of Sulphuric Acid and Benzyl Acid, there was a chemical reaction and the gas leaked.

As a result of the gas leakage, people residing in the radius of three kms complained of breathing problem and eye irritation, he said.

Two fire engines of the Badlapur civic council and one of the Shirgaon MIDC rushed to the scene and the leakage was plugged, it was stated.

The situation was brought under control around 2324 hrs.

No one was injured due to the gas leakage, he added.
