Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray tests COVID-19 positive

Mumbai: Maharashtra Minister and Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thacekray has tested positive for COVID-19.

He asked everyone who came in contact with him to undergo test.

"On having mild symptoms of COVID, I had myself tested and I am COVID positive. I request everyone who came in contact with me to get themselves tested," he tweeted.

"I urge everyone to realise that it is extremely important to not let your guard down. Please follow COVID protocols & stay safe," he said.

Maharashtra has been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.

India clocked 40,953 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health released data on Saturday.

It is one of the biggest spike in cases in recent times.

The death toll due to the highly infectious virus now stands at 1,59,558 with 188 fresh deaths reported during the past 24 hours.
