Maharashtra: RTI activist held by Aurangabad police while taking bribe

Aurangabad (Maharashtra) , Jul 22 (UNI) A self-proclaimed RTI activist and his two accomplices were arrested for seeking a ransom of Rs eight lakhs from the chief engineer of the Aurangabad division of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

The RTI activist is Uday Arunrao Palkar (of 46, town centre, Cidco N-5), while two others are Bhanudas More (31) and Amol Salve (35) (of Gulmohar Colony Cidco N-5).

Cidco police said Palkar was in contact with the victim, MSEDCL chief engineer, Suresh Ganeshkar (55) since last few months and was seeking some information under RTI Act from time to time .
Palkar sought Rs eight lakhs from him, promising him for not tarnishing his image.

Disgruntled victim lodged a complaint with the police and then they laid a trap in front of Hotel Saisandesh near Jijamata High School and arrested Palkar while taking the bribe, police added.
