Maharashtra: Section 144 imposed in Mumbai amid Omicron spread fear
Mumbai/UNI: Keeping in mind the spread of the 'Omicron' variant, the city police administration has imposed Section 144 of Indian Penal code (IPC) for 48 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
With the imposition of Section 144 the administration has banned all rallies and public meeting and public gathering in the city.
State Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil told reporters that All india Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has taken out ‘Tiranga rally’ from Aurangabad to Mumbai to press their demands including Muslim reservation and Waqf Board issue, but they will not be allows to enter the city.
He further said the police have imposed section 144 of IPC is to prevent the spread of the new variant Omicron, and therefore nobody will be allowed to enter in the city for the next 48 hours, he added.
Meanwhile, on Saturday around 0700 hours AIMIM leader, MP, Imtiyaz Jalil took out a rally from Aurangabad, and it was was stopped on Ahmednagar-Pune Highway on the ground that they had taken out the rally without seeking prior permission.
